Facility Design for Coselle Based CNG Transport

  • Mark Trebble, Curtin University of Technology, Australia
  • SeaNG has recently received American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) approval for the construction of compressed natural gas (CNG) transport ships incorporating coselle technology. This paper focuses on the shore facility design for both the producing and the receiving plants and discusses some of the more challenging aspects associated with facility design for this type of transport system. A two level pressure manifolding system is utilized in order to allow continuous operation with a minimum of disruption to operating conditions in the shore facilities. An expander/compressor is incorporated at the receiving facility in order to provide a continuous supply of gas at sufficient pressure for use in modern gas turbines (>400 psig). The paper also discusses the non-steady state approximations used to calculate the heat of filling and the cooling effect of depressurization.
