Control Structure Analysis for Multi-scale Process Systems - A Case Study of Bioreactors
In this paper, we extend and apply the methodology for nonlinear control structure design that combines the concepts of factorial design, control relevant metric and multiprojection analysis to multi-scale processes. The objective is to examine the effect of micro-scale dynamics on the macro-scale controllability of a recycled continuous alcoholic fermentation system. From the chosen case study, it is shown that the control structure analysis using the proposed method is able to guide the designer for selecting the best control structure for such a multi-scale process.
