On the Pseudo-Dynamic Modelling of an Alumina Refinery Residue Lake System
This paper presents an application of dynamic simulation in an alumina refinery. Following the successful deployment of steady-state plant-wide alumina refinery models, presented in the last International Alumina Quality Workshop (Bahri, 2004), the residue lake models have been further enhanced such that users have the ability to run the lake models in a pseudo-dynamic mode to predict soda and lake volume changes within the lakes. The new dynamic lake model is linked to a calibrated plant model which then allows users to undertake activities such as production planning and raw materials forecasting with improved accuracy.
