Networking innovation - Success Collaborations between Industry, Academia and Government

  • Prof Michael Dureau, The Warren Centre, Australia
  • To achieve successful innovation, collaboration between academia, industry and government is critical and almost always essential.
This paper reviews some exceptional examples of such partnerships and the role of expert volunteers.
The Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering based at Sydney University and its New Zealand sister The Canterbury University based Centre for Advanced Engineering have contributed significantly to the progress of the 2 countries.
University based initiatives such as Engineering Sydney & the Industry Advisory Network at UTS have proved mutually beneficial to the participants and have led to a reshaping of engineering education in those unis.
An interesting example of the challenges facing collaboration is InnovationXchange which has had to radically change its original model in the face of IP leakage issues.
Finally the Australian Power Institute is a good template for other fields of engineering facing a drop-off in engineering expertise.
