Enthalpy of Mixing and Heats of Vaporization of Toluene with Tertiary Butyl Alcohol and n - Butyl Alcohol at 298.15 K and 308.15 K
Data on Enthalpy of mixing are useful in the design of separation equipments. Out of the various designs available for the experimental determination of enthalpy of mixing, the apparatus described by Tanaka et.al, Patel, Rao and Nirguna Babu was selected, modified incorporating the vapor space corrections and fabricated. The apparatus was tested with a known system iso Butyl Alcohol – Benzene and data obtained were found to be in very good agreement with literature values. Experiments were then conducted for mixtures of Toluene with Tertiary Butyl Alcohol, and n-Butyl Alcohol. The experimental data were fitted to the standard correlation of the type
Hm / (x1 x2) = A0 + A1 (2x1 – 1) + A2 (2x1 – 1)2 + A3 (2x1 – 1)3
Heat of vaporization data were obtained by using static apparatus similar to the one used by Rao and Viswanath. The apparatus was tested with Benzene – n Hexane system for testing its working. Then the heats of vaporization of experimental data for the above systems were tested for the consistency using calculated values.
